P4P800 Deluxe IEEE 1394 Problem

I am trying to get my firewire to work. I have turned the 1394 controller on
in Bios. However, WinXP recognizes new hardware but I am unable to load any
driver for this. I put the Asus disk in but the new hardware wizard fails
with the message: Can't install this hardware. Error occurred during
installation. The data is invalid.

I downloaded the latest Intel chipset file from Asus, but it does the same
thing.

Where can I get the driver? Or am I doing something wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you search in Google, by using "The data is invalid", including the
double quotes on each end of the string, you will find thousands of hits.
After reading a number of them, you'll find mention of the use of REGEDT32,
to go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\PCI. Apparently
there are security settings in the key, that can prevent new hardware from
being properly installed. When this key denies access to the installer,
that is when the infamous "the data is invalid" shows up.

Note that the Registry Editor can cause great damage to your install if
you are not careful. I'm not up on the procedures for backing up the
registry or doing a "restore point", so read up on how to do safe updates
to the registry, before proceeding.

Paul, you are a lifesaver. Thanks.

After looking at the Google link you provided, I found that the
LeadtekWinFast installer apparently screws up the registry permissions when
installing Leadtek GeForce video cards. Since I have a Leadtek GeForce 3 Ti
200, it appears that is what happened to my machine.

I made the registry changes (after backing up of course) and when I
rebooted, it installed my 1394 port. While trying to solve this problem, I
did a lot of searches, most of them "1394" and" firewire" and other similar
strings. Never thought to search on "The data is invalid".

Thanks for the help.
