P4C800-E Deluxe Promise ATA options

I need more storage (audio tape collection) with reasonable
access speed. I am set up on the Intel SATA controller with
2 drives for the primary system in WinXP. I want to add
drives to the Promise controller. I know it can run in IDE
PATA (not RAID) mode and have done this on another machine.

Questions:
1) Can one run one drive using the RAID driver without
creating a RAID array? ie, use the Promise connector and
usual driver in non-RAID form.

2) If that is not possible, what is the latest ATA
(nonRAID) driver and where is it available? I have
100130.zip

3) Is there an adapter to use skinny SATA-type cables to
connect an SATA drive to a PATA controller? - I would
prefer to buy an SATA drive and connect it to the Promise
controller

#1 it's possible just create a striped array and
add only one drive.

#2 drivers for both modes are on the Asus
web site and on the CD that came with the
mother board.

Yes you can run a single NON RAID SATA drive on the Promise controler. I
depends which drivers that you have installed. From the ASUS driver
download WEB page there are two Promise FastTrak drivers. If you want to run
NON RAID drives load the FastTrak 378 ATA V1.00.1.30 driver.
Then you can use your hard drive as a normal IDE drive. To run RAID SATA's
load the FastTrak 378 RAID V1.001.37 driver.

Yes there are PATA to SATA adapters to convert parallel IDE drive to a SATA
drive. MicroCenter and Fry's carry these adapters on there WEb sites
for about $20.
