outlook express says connecting, authorizing - and nothing

I was working with Microsoft support on importing copied
dbx into outlook (as import refused to get them). One of
the suggestions was to create a new identity. I did this
and eventually deleted the created identity. But since
then outlook express will not get my email. It says
connecting, then authorizing, and thats where it stays. It
doesn't get the email, it doesn't timeout, I don't receive
any error messages. I tried deleting my main identity and
redoing. I've followed the steps on my ISP (satellite)
server to set up the email program.
I've used outlook express for years, and this just started
when tech support had me do the different methods, as OE
refused to import my dbx's (the final method (which
worked) to get OE to recognize my dbx was to open OE,
create a folder called oldmessages.dbx, close OE, open up
the folder where the current dbx were stored, then copy
the dbx I wanted to that folder, rename oldmessages.dbx to
useless.dbx and rename the copied dbx to oldmessages.dbx,
this had to be done for each dbx I wanted, which made OE
recognize my saved dbx's).
Does anyone have a suggestion on getting OE to work? I've
downloaded Eudora to see if it would get my email and it
does. But I would prefer to use OE. Thanks in advance.

Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can cause such
problems. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Don't delete your current identity just yet but it may be damaged
(especially if it's the default Main Identity). Try one or more of your
accounts in a new Named Identity (File>Identities>Add new identity).
Assuming all is well, import messages from the old Identity before deleting
it (File>Identities>Manage Identities).

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

Disable Background Compacting and frequently perform a manual compact of all
OE folders while "working offline". More at

Hi Pa Bear, I've done those things, and created new
identities. OE still refuses to get email. Stays on the
authorizing.. any other suggestions?
