Outlook Express: Folder could not be displayed

J

Jack Schols

Clicking on the folder tab for 'Sent Items' in MS OE shows
the following message:

Folder could not be displayed
Outlook Express could not open this folder.

Possible causes are:
 Low disk space.
 Low memory.

If you don't care about the messages in Sent Items, close OE then find and
delete Sent Items.dbx in your Identity's store
(http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/store.htm#storemain). A new, empty
one will be created when you next open OE.

If you need to save some of them, close OE and move Sent Items.dbx to
another Windows folder.

DBXpress (faster, more powerful, with even greater functionality)

Run one of the above applications on the moved DBX file. If it successfully
recovers any messages, count yourself fortunate. Do not import the
messages from the moved DBX file back into your store; drag them into an
open OE folder. But...

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

Disable Background Compacting and frequently perform a manual compact of all
OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
