Outlook express can't open attachments. command failed to execute

I cant open any attachment I get in my email from outlook express. If I
try it says gives an error warning that says command failed to execute.
Is I save the attachment to the hard drive it gives me the same
warning, but it does save the file. Then I can go open it from the
folder where I saved it.

the problem is not the checkbox in the security tab that bolcks
attachments.
I have a lot of free space on my drive too.

I don't remember when this started, but it was a long time ago. it
might have been when I installed SP2 but I think it was when I
installed windows anti spyware beta a year or two ago. that program is
(thoretically) not on my system anymore.

I am runing windows XP sp2 outlook express 6. I have IE 6 but I usually
use mozzilla fire fox 1.0.7

Any one have a solution to the annoying problem?

Clean out your Temporary Internet files folder.

OLEXP: Error Message: The Command Failed to Execute
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/171464

SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to save a mail attachment to your hard disk in Outlook
Express, you may receive the following error message:

The command failed to execute.

CAUSE
There is not enough free disk space on your hard disk to save the
attachment.

RESOLUTION
Increase the amount of free space on your hard disk by using one or more of
the following methods:

* Remove any unnecessary files from the hard disk.
* Empty the Recycle Bin.
* Delete the Internet Explorer Setup folder. The Internet Explorer Setup
folder contains a copy of the Setup files so you can reinstall Internet
Explorer from the hard disk instead of having to download another copy from
the Microsoft Web site. Deleting this folder does not affect the performance
of Internet Explorer.

After you free some hard disk space, try to save the attachment again.

Hope this helps. Let us know.
