Outlook 2003- pauses for a few seconds every few keystrokes

Hi- this problem is making Outlook unusable for me. It happens with both my
Windows XP machine and Vista laptop, using the same data on both machines
(but not the same PST file- I synced twice with my Palm. I notice that the
PST file is only a few megabytes, however, so it's small when the problem
happens. In addtion, I tried deleting everything and starting from the
beginning, just loading up one part of Outlook at a time to see where the
problem is-- seems like it occurs when I start approaching around 300
contacts (I have about 500 contacts total), or as I ramp up my calendar
entries. With no data, no problem.

This whole thing is so frustrating to me. I tried a trial version of Chaos
Intellect to see if I would have a problem with that as well-- no problem,
imports my full last of contacts and calendar entries.

I really want and need to use Outlook- anyone have any suggestions? I would
greatly appreciate the feedback! Thanks.

Reboot into Safe Mode (with networking) to see if the problem still
exists. If not, something you load on Windows startup or for your
login is causing the problem. If safe mode for boot gets rid of the
problem, start by using msconfig.exe to disable all startup items,
reboot into normal mode, and retest. If the problem remains, try
using SysInternals' AutoRuns which finds more locations for startup
items than msconfig. If using either gets rid of the problem then
start reenabling them one at a time, reboot, and retest. When the
problem reappears, you know it was the last startup item that you
reenabled.

Try starting Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe") which will
NOT load any plug-ins installed for Outlook. If the problem goes
away, one of the plug-ins is bad.
