Open Powerpoint 4.0 files in Powerpoint 2007

I am running Powerpoint 2007 on my PC and Powerpoint 2008 on my Mac.
Meanwhile, I need to grab some PPT slides from files I created back in about
'94, and I am fairly sure that they were created in Powerpoint 4.0 on a PC.
But neither PPT 2007 (PC) or PPT 2008 (Mac) will open my older files.

Is there a way to coax these new versions to open the old files? Or is
there a converter I can download?

I can't remember the last versiuon that would open PPT4 files but 2007
definitely wont. Maybe you could open in an intermediate version and then
resave in the new file format?

If this works there's code on PPTFAQ for doing this in bulk.
