On a SONY Vaio can't write data to a DVD+RW disc

T

Teifion

I have followed the advice of unticking the CD write
feature from the properties of the joint DVR+-R/RW and
CD R/RW drive (i.e.
Open My Computer.
Right-click DVD-RAM Drive under Devices with Removable
Storage, and then click Properties.
Click the Recording tab.
Clear the "Enable CD recording on this drive" check box,
and then click OK. )
but then it tells me that it cannot read the disc in the
drive which it thinks has zero bytes capacity. Where in
fact the DVD+RW disk has a capacity of 4.7 GB.

Does any one know of another switch I need to set to get
it working?

Do you have a packet writing program such as DirectCD installed? Your drive
may not be compatible with it; check with the manufacturer.

This is a brand new machine. On the drive I can play
audio cds, I can read data CD's and can play movie
DVD's. The only thing I can't do is create a file onm a
blank DVD+RW disc.

What software are you using? Windows XP cannot write to DVDs natively.

Thanks Bastet. What software should I be looking for? I
want the 4.7 GB discs to be my backup media.??

Would SONY supply the machine with the appropriate
software.

Try Nero Incd, Roxio Ecdc, or sonic RecordNow! Deluxe. Not free but
these are the best.

According to www.sonystyle.com some models come with Click to DVD software.
You will need to read the documentation that came with your system to
determine what was supplied. If not, I use Easy CD Creator 6 Platinum (about
£40).
