Offline files / SSL not working when Offline files disabled. ????

I am hoping that someone can help me with a problem that has just surfaced.

This past weekend I had to replace our primary file/print server.

I used robocopy to replicate all of the security and file/folder structure.
All shares are set up the same.

All of the users can access their files fine, but on both Winxp pro and
Windows 2000 pro they keep getting told that their files are no longer
available. I.e. Offline files. When this happens they can no longer print.

To get around this, I have been logging in with an admin account and have
disabled offline files. Then they no longer see the prompts that their files
are offline, and they are now able to print fine.

These users have roaming profiles, which are still on the old file server,
and they have access to their profiles fine.

The only way I have found I can get rid of this problem and all of the side
effects is to use AD Users & Computers, remove the path to their profile (so
that they use a local profile). Rename their server version of their profile
to username.old, do the same to their local copy of their profile. Log them
in to create a new profile and then from the local copy of their old
profile, copy over all of their favorites, desktops shortcuts etc.
Once their local profile is working fine, then I set up their remote path
again in AD Users and Computers so that it will now copy their new local
profile up to the server.

This is a ton of work to get rid of the offline files issue. I have tried
deleting the local offline files in hopes that it would stop trying to find
them at the old location, but that doesn't seem to work.

But aside from that for now, does anyone know why SSL in IE would not work
with Offline files disabled?

Thanks!!

Tim
