OBVIOUS difference: Outlook Add Book VS. Windows Add Book

A

amanda

so after going through 18 pages of questions, it appears
that many people have repeatedly, through different
problems, pointed out that there is apparently a
difference between the Windows Address Book, and the
contact list, or address book within Outlook.

The answer is always the same: "you're wrong, they are
the same, you must be imagining what you're seeing".

well, I'm not. very clearly, the windows address book
does NOT sync with the Outlook Address Book. I am SURE of
this because there are groups in my Outlook Address Book
that are not in my Windows Address Book. Pretty simple. I
even deleted my .wab file hoping it would reset. It
didn't.

So I invite any of the people who so routinely insist
this problem doesn't exist to VNC my computer and witness
it. And perhaps offer solution, instead of denial....

please?

Start at the beginning please. What version and mail support mode of Outlook
you running? (line 2 of Help | About if you don't know) Where are your
Contacts currently stored (Outlook or Outlook Express) and how did you get
them there? Which program (Outlook or Outlook Express) did you want to use
for managing your Contacts and e-mail?

If you are only using Outlook, the Windows Address Book should have nothing
to so with any of this. The statement about being "one in the same" refers
to the Outlook Address Book and the Contacts Folder. The Outlook Address
Book is simply another view of your Contacts Folder.

Don't shout at me. I didn't create this mess. Microsoft did. They're the
ones that created the downsized temporary version of Outlook called Internet
Mail Only which couldn't support the Outlook Address Book. It's confused
everyone. Whether you care to or not, you're going to have to understand the
difference between the Windows Address Book, Outlook Address Book and your
Contacts Folder if you want to help yourself out of this mess.

In the meantime, you need to explain far more clearly than you have exactly
what problems you're having for anyone to help you.

This is BEYOND frustrating.

I am using OUTLOOK. 2000, SP-3, 9.0.0.6627 Internet Mail
Only - Security Update

My contacts are currently stored IN Outlook Address Book.
I entered them by hand into Outlook Address Book. I
don't give a rats ass which program I use to manage the
contacts, i simply want to be able to print labels,
envelopes, and an address book of a singular group WITHIN
my contacts in Outlook Address Book.

By following the ridiculously not helpful Outlook advice
out there, the only way to "export" my contacts (which is
what I need in order to supply a mailing house with my
address list) is to do so from WINDOWS Address Book, by
unsharing the folders.

i GOT that the Outlook Address Book and the Contacts were
the same damn thing. We ALL get that. You are NOT
listening when we say that the WINDOWS ADDRESS BOOK and
the OUTLOOK ADDRESS BOOK, which you've claimed are the
same thing, ARE NOT THE SAME THING.

I WANT TO EXPORT A CONTACT GROUP OUT OF OUTLOOK ADDRESS
BOOK INTO EXCEL, a .txt FILE OR SOME OTHER DATA FILE.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD< PLEASE LISTEN TO ALL OF US AND JUST
ADVISE US ON HOW TO DO IT.

Just a thought-

If
"i GOT that the Outlook Address Book and the Contacts were
the same damn thing."

Then why not simply export the contacts folder to an excel spreadsheet by
selecting it and then choosing file>>>import/export to a file and choose the
type desired- at least that is how it is done in Outlook 2002- but I have to
believe it is an option in 2000- at least you should be able to export it to
a csv file and imort that into excel.

Don't shoot the messenger - only trying to help. Oh- and stop using the
address book.....;-)
