NY Times reviews 2 phono turntables that connect directly to computers

The turntables both cost under US $200. One connects via USB and the
other via audio inputs for computers that have them. Programs for the
computer allow modest editing if you wish. While this is not high end
audio equipment, the turntables likely are good enough for many,
especially if the old records are not in prime condition in the first
place.

for over 3 years thru the amplifyer to the input on my soundcard. Below

No need for this turntable. I've had my turntable connected to my PC
for over 3 years thru the amplifyer to the input on my soundcard. Below
website will tell you how to do this.

I have a good music system that includes a very good turntable with a
McIntosh preamplifier with phono inputs. The output of the preamp will
connect directly to my external multi channel USB sound card located
with the music system so I only have to run a single USB cable over to
the computer. However, for other reasons, I require a very good sound
card which alone costs about as much as one of those turntables that
connect directly. Many younger people do not have a turntable. For
these, on of the mentioned turntables would be an option. Also many
computers do not come with a line level input for their inexpensive
integrated sound cards. Some have a microphone input, but this would
require a a device to equalize the phono cartridge output and match the
level to that of a microphone input. For these people lacking a
computer with line level inputs, the mentioned turntable with the USB
output would be a decent option.
