Norton Internet Security 2004 Problems

Can anyone tell me how to get help from Symantec? I have
gone to their support site and it does not help me. I
recently installed the NIS2004. There is a problem
installing the updates. On the Norton Antivirus update
process I get the following message: Windows XP 5.1.2600
Service Pack 1 NAVNT 10.00 Update unable to
complete
On the Norton Internet Security I get virtually the same
message but instead of NAVNT 10.00 it says Norton
Internet Security 7.0.1. I read at their support site
that it could be the registry but to backup my registry
before doing anything. My machine came with the XP
loaded. I have an HP Pavilion 761C with XP Home Edition.
I don't know how to install or activate the backup
utility. They say you have to get it off the program
CD??? How do I do it when I don't have a program CD?
Can Anyone Help ME? I am NOT a computer guru I am very
much a novice. Thank you so very much if you can help.
