Norton AntiVirus Install Fails Under Windows XP SP2

Hi, I did a fresh install of Windows XP SP1a and then installed build 2142
of the XP SP2 beta. Then I tried to install Norton AntiVirus 8.0.1.457. The
install wizard dies before it gets far enough to ask me for any input. It
says "The wizard was interrupted before Symantec Antivirus Client could be
completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete
installation at another time, please run setup again."

Has this happened to anyone else? I haven't found any clues as to the cause
so far.

Excuse my lack of knowledge with Norton numerical version types (8.0.1.457)
but would that be 2002? I have read posts which state that Norton 2003 is
not compatible with SP2 and would expect that means that 2002 is not either.

It isn't that the software is going to be incompatible, it just doesn't
integrate with the new Security Center. All software should be
compatible with SP2 as long as it is developed properly. There are some
ptograms (only from MS that I've noticed so far) that have decided to no
longer support XP as MS has replaced the function of that software
program with a built in software for the same function.

I posted that bit of information because an OP in another group received
Email from Symantec which stated that 2003 is not compatible (Symantec's
words). Just the messenger on this one and taking the word of a user who had
correspondence with Symantec on this very issue.

Ah. Well, that is the decision of Symantic to not support Sevice Pack 2
then. Windows does nothing to prevent applications from working on their
OS and provides the information to software developers for compatibility
and such. I hope Symantic is just talking about during the beta and
will have it supported once SP2 goes final because that would be a
really stupid move on their part if they didn't support SP2.

NAV 2004 runs fine under SP2 (both RC1 and RC2). The patch is for version
2003. 2002 will not work after SP2, and will need to be upgraded.

I am running Norton System Works 2002 with NAV 2002, etc., and installe SP2
RC a few days ago. I've used the utilities, and the anti virus with no
problem. But, of course, it was already installed before SP2.
It may be a different case installing it after SP2.

According to Symantec and Microsoft, NSW and NAV 2002 are no longer
compatible with SP2. User beware. I would suspect that if you have it
installed, it is not working properly, even with the absence of any errors
or warnings. What does your WinXP Security Center say about it?

It says that it is installed but unknown. When I check the reccommendations,
it says to make sure my subscription is up to date. Although I have System
works 2002, my antivirus is current abnd I am having no trouble downloading
the cmost current dat files. Wouldn't it give me an error message if there
were a problem?
