Norton anti-virus will not run after installing XP Pro update

I installed a XP Pro automatic update this morning.
Since then, the boot is slow, DSL startup is exceedingly
slow, and I can not get Norton anti-virus to start. (The
firewall starts up okay.) I can't even "manually" enable
the anti-virus autoprotect feature. Everything worked
fine last nite. How do I either fix this, or back out of
the last automatic update? I am very concerned about
going onto the net without an active anti-virus. HELP!

Check your Event Viewer in Administrative Tools, in the
control panel for error and warning messages related to
this problem. On the left side pane click either system
or application then double click one of the messages on
the right side pane to see details. You can use system
restore to go back before that update, or find out the
update #, look in your add/ remove programs for it, and
just remove that update. The most recent update I have
just installed is 867801, so this may be the one.

In case anyone else has this problem, I finally got
things fixed. I ran spybot, removed three items related
to Windows Media Player, and everything is working great -
including Media Player
