Maybe this KB article will help you:

(326675) "No Preview Available" and "File Format Is Not Supported"
Error Messages Occur When You Try to View Graphic Files
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326675

Also, you might try this:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

I experienced the same problem on my PC that runs XP (sp3) and I found a simple solution that works every time. On occasions when I want to run a slide show, the images are JPG photos. Here are the steps:

Go to

DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS à OWNER (or whatever this is called on your machine) à MY DOCUMENTS à MY PICTURES à

Here, create a folder – I called mine myTemp - and copy your pictures (photos or whatever JPG files) to this folder. I found that the View a slide show facility works just fine for this folder. Then I copy the folder to wherever I want to save the pictures. Finally, I re-name the folder to whatever I want. The View a slide show facility works here too no need to mess with registers, DLLs or other esoteric software components. I hope it works for you too.
Cheers,
Paul
