no admin rights - even though i'm logged on as administrator!!

I have a Win2K machine which is running SP2. I appear to have lost all
administrator rights, even though I'm logged on as administrator. I can't
check for viruses because it wont let me install the program because it I
haven't got administrator rights! Windows update does not work. i've tried
doing runas etc, but nothing will work.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried logging in using the built-in Administrator account
and checking the privileges of your other administrative account(s)?

Yes, I have tried that and a lot more besides. I run an IT support
desk and it has had myself and my staff very puzzled. We may have to
rebuild the PC as it we need to install AV software...
