You can't.
Outlook is not an NNTP client like Outlook express.

I suggest asking in an Outlook newsgroup:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.Calendaring
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.configuration
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.Contacts
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.Fax
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.General
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.installation
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.interop
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.printing
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.Program_AddIns
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.program_forms
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.Program_VBA
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.ThirdPartyUtil

Oops, these guys are right and I am wrong. My Outlook was FUBAR'd so I
couldn't test before posting as I should have done. I
uninstalled/reinstalled Outlook and checked as I should have done to begin
with and you can't access NG's with Outlook.

One little trick you can use if you want Outlook dedicated to mail & OE
"news-only", is use a shortcut to OE via Outlook.
("C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews)
This allows you to directly access the OE NGs, but reply-email in OE but
using Outlook's mail config.

Ignore the rest . Of course you CAN just type in News in the help box and it
will tell you how.

Yes, it tells you how to open newsgroups in Outlook Express. Outlook 2003
does not support a newsreader.

In fact with Outlook 2003 XP you go to help and type "news" it tells you
specifically that Outlook isn't a newsreader but will automatically set up
OE as your news reader.

Please explain this statement, "This allows you to directly access the OE NGs, but reply-email in OE but using Outlook's mail config."

I have been using the /outnews switch for 3 years and not 1 of my posts to any NG has gone through Outlook. Oh, are you talking about sending a reply to an individual poster and not the NG?

Just out of curiosity. Why wouldn't you simply use OE for news and if you
want Outlook for mail?

J

johnf

Sorry, yes I meant replying directly to a poster in a NG (as a normal mail
with the Outlook HTML & attachments facility).

And will also rename the Outlook Express Newsreader to Outlook Newsreader.
You can then use the customize toolbar to drag the News icon to the toolbar.
