New XP Pro install, MM2 update, MM2 now toast!!!

P

XP Pro,. Radeon 64 DDR VIVO, Creative Webcam and sometimes Fuji S602 Z all
connected. Latest Radeon Cat 4.2 installed.

Movie Maker was working. Didn't test it fully but I'm pretty sure I started
it up and the composite input off Radeon came up.

Been doing the thing at Windows update (new install) and noticed the MM2
update so did it also.

Now when I choose to start recording MM2 hangs. Supplied help seems to
indicate a video device selection dialog box should come up but it never
does.

Any ideas? I havem't updated WMP from 8 and would prefer not to. Hopefully
that's not a requirement is else the update site would have indicated same.

Also I can't find any "Remove" for MM or MM2 in Add/Remove under any of the
choices.

I can seem to use all the video devices in MSMessenger, the VFW's devices
(cams) in NetMeeting and ATI's TV-In app is working finest kind.

tia for any help.

If nothing else, how do I remove it? Surely it's not delete the folder and
manually purge the registry?

Yes how do you uninstall moviemaker2?
I have Adobe Premiere Pro and nolonger need mm2 but
there's no uninstall in the add and remove programs?
I go to the mm20exe.config file and no mm20.uninstall exe?

Can I write a command:
[uninstall]
moviemk.exe? or just live with this wasted drive space?

Hi there,

Some will tell you that you cannot completely remove the program...they should
instead say that you can remove the program completely you cannot remove any of
the services it uses because they are needed by XP...so....

1) Find the Icon or Shortcut that points to Movie Maker 2 and right click it
2) Select the properties option
3) Select "Find Target"
4) Windows Explorer will open up the directory that contains Movie Maker 2
5) Delete Movie Maker 2
6) Delete Icon/Short Cut

On my system Movie Maker is in its own directory...I expect your is as well, I
have in the past found that it is safe to delete the entire directory....If you
decide to do that, may I suggest that you simply rename the directory and
re-boot and perhaps run Adobe...I am sure it will function perfectly...but you
never know.

Adobe Premier Pro does use the services that Movie Maker 2 uses and that's why
some incorrectly tell you that you cannot completely remove it....this is in the
same vein as not being able to remove Outlook Express....it uses services that
are part of the system.
