New Widescreen Monitor treated by as standard monitor

When Windows adds a new monitor using the standard driver, can it detect the
aspect ratio? When I hooked up mine, all the resolution choice were for 4:3
monitors. There were no widescreen options. It should choose the monitor's
native resolution on its own if the monitor is an LCD.

What monitor do you have, I've had to select the resolution myself for
widescreen based LCD's...my apple 20" did go automatically into
1680x1050 though
