New machine ACER T671 with Vista Home Premium freezes

This machine came with Vista Home Premium installed and about twice a week
everything stops - no blue screen. The only way to get going is to hit the
power button and reboot.

The event log reports:
Audit events have been dropped by the transport. The real time backup file
was corrupt due to improper shutdown.

Followed by:
The previous system shutdown at 12:28:24 AM on 2007/11/05 was unexpected.

It seems I am not the only person having this sort of problem but I do not
see many that are having this problem on new computers with Vista installed
by the manufacturer.

Freezing issues such as that are usually caused by hardware.
Contact the manufacturer for warranty support.

You may want to perform a Clean Install of Windows using restore media
as this will probably be one of the things they ask you to do.
Back up any important data first.

Something else you may want to try.
Perform steps 4 and 11 on this page:

The memory diagnostic needs to be run for at least 2 hours.
You could also power off and unplug the computer.
Open the case and reseat all cards and cables to make sure there is
not a connection issue.

Jupiter, if he opens the case, he voids the warranty!!!

Careful with that kind of advice!

Are you sure?
Then that is unique to Acer.
Most other OEMs have no problems with customers opening the case.
If there is not a specific prohibition in the warranty, it does not
apply.
