Ok ATI experts I have a 9600XT on order (here tomorrow) and I am trying to
learn about driver numbers. I see the 3.10 at the web site but the
downloaded file has no reference to 3.10. How do you guys identify driver
versions? I guess the 9600XT default may not be as current as this new
driver so I want to make sure before I screw things up.

Thanks

Bill

Doesn't that sort of thing always seem to happen though? So predictable in
fact, that it was your post that caused them to be released. Thanks! ;)

On the other hand, I doubt ver.8.8 actually brings the MMC bug count to
below 10,000, so who the hell cares... :)

It's more like 3-8, 3-9, 3-10 than 3.8, 3.9, 3.10.
If that makes sense to you... it's the 10th driver release of 200*3*
The next driver, in 2004, will be 4.1.

I understand that. I was trying to make sense of the file name from ATI.
How does one know its 3.10 or whatever?

Thanks

6.14.10.6396

The two numbers, between the sixes, denote the version number. In my case,
it's 3.9. I'm not sure how to decipher the acual file name. I've notice
that the actual file names seem to begin with increasing on the number 79x.
3.10's are 796. 3.9's are 795. 3.8's are 794, and so on....

Yep, same is true of a meal turning up, at my table, as soon as I light a
cigarette!

lol. I installed the 3.10's, and XP decided that the drivers were not
enough. Kept finding two unknown devices, after the drivers were installed.
Ripped them out, and back with the 3.9's. Still don't seem to have resolved
the issue with the monitor going into powersave mode, on boot, with my Asus
9800XT.../shrug.

I'm running the 3-10 Catalyst drivers with my 9600pro, and so far all seems
nice and stable. My 3dMark2001 score increased from 10200 (Cat 3-8) to
10800, to boot - I got rid of the Cat 3-9s as they were nothing but trouble
for me.

Go ahead and grab the 3-10 Cat drivers for your 9600xt.

Just a quickie to let everyone know that the new Cat3.10 drivers, MMC8.8 and
RemoteWonder2.2 are now up on the ATI web site.

http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html

But no softmod yet available to enable the 4 hidden pipelines on certain
cards. 3D Mark score with this new drivers on my Hercules AIW 9800SE is 3700
and before it was 6303.
I reinstalled the Omega 2.4.96c drivers with softmod, but now the TV doesn't
work anymore. Does MMC8.8 need the latest Catalyst drivers?

Any news about what is new? Though I'll prefer to wait for the Omega
version :)

Same here. I wonder how soon. The Xmas season can't help.

Just noticed that MMC 8.8 shows up for the ATI TV PCI card too, so I
hope that the TV card will work with it.

I have an ATI TV tuner

MMC 7.9 is not much fun

Only took a week to get working and I don't know what made it start working
properly.
