Networking Win98 and WinXP

Hello all,

I run a 8 point network and my main machine is XP Pro and the others are
Win98se.

All Machines are set up and can see each other in Network Neighborhood/My
network places.
All machines can access all shares on W98 machines.
No Win98 machines can access the shared printer or shares on the XP machine
When accessing the XP through Network Neighborhood it requests a
password to access \\MACHID\IPC$
When attempting to access the printer the request is for
\\MACHID\PRINTERID
The Username/Passwords used to log on to the W98 machines are identical to
the Username/Passwords on the XP machine.
Simple file sharing and "Force Guest" are disabled on the XP machine
Both the Permissions and the Security are set to allow these user accounts
access to the resources on the XP machine.
All machines can access the internet through the router-> cable modem
All machines can ping each other practically immediately.

I've looked through technet,
http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/win2k-ipc-error.asp,
http://www.practicallynetworked.com, and alot of other net resources, but I
can't seem to find resolution. Please help.

Windows NT, 2000, XP Pro require a login and create a Security ID
(SID) Windows 95 / 98 do not require a login and do not create a SID.
That is why you are being challenged for a Username / Password for all
shared resources in the XP machine. You have three options:

1. Continue to login for every share.
2. Mover all shared resources off the XP box to one of the 98 boxes.
3. Upgrade al the other boxes to NT, 2000, XP
