Network Users can no longer access PC after upgrade to WinXP from Win2K

After upgrading Windows 2K Pro to Windows XP Pro,
retaining the existing FAT32 file system, the shared C drive
could no longer be accessed by users at other workstations
as had been the case before the upgrade. These workstation
users were also set up as valid users, even administrative
users, on the upgraded PC. The error message given upon
attempted access was, in effect, that the users on the
workstations were denied access because of logon
restrictions or policies or because of blank passwords
(but they used blank passwords with Win 2K) The net effect
is disastrous because now, having upgraded to WinXP on
their peer to peer server, the client no longer has a
useable network leaving his office paralyzed. The computer
name of the upgraded PC had been changed after the upgrade
because of long standing objections to the name but then
named back to the original name because of anticipated
problems. Might that have caused this problem and what can
be done about it now to permit the workstation users
access to the upgraded PC's C drive?

Have you tried running the XP Network Setup wizard on all machines? Be sure
to turn off any firewalls on all machines when running the wizard. Also, at
the point in the wizard where it asks how this computer connects to the
Internet, an incorrect response will block network access. Usually, the
"Gateway" response will do the trick but you may have to experiment a bit.
