Network Connections Choices in Control Panel (LAN/High Speed Inter

Hi:

I took a friend's PC to work to help get rid of malware and some viruses. I
cleaned her desktop PC which is running XP SP2. In my office I have DSL
(which is also the Internet connection method that she uses at home) but was
unable to connect to the Internet at work, even after using the connection
wizard. I see that in Network Connections, she only has Dial-up choices for
icons (there is no LAN or High-Speed Internet connection heading or LAN
icon). I took a regular phone line and configured a dial-up connection
without any issues using AOL, but she is still unable to connect at home
using her DSL ethernet connection and now I am wondering if the fact that I
was unable to likewise use a DSL connection at work on her PC has anything to
do with the fact that her LAN and High-Speed Internt choices are missing
under her Control Panel\Network Connections.

Thanks.

First thing I would do is go to the device manager and see if it is showing
this network card under network connections. If it not, then try
reinstalling the drivers for that particular network card.
If you go to control panel, then network connections, and it is not showing
Local Area Connections, there is a good chance the drivers were corrupted or
uninstalled. If it is showing, right click on it and make sure that it is
enabled.
And yes, if the connections are not showing in network connections that
means they are usually not installed.
