Network and dial up connections does not open

I have a Windows 2000 server (Domain server). I went to update the DNS
entries for LAN adapter, but when I right click on "my netwrok places"
and go to properties, my comtpuer just hangs. Doing a Ctl-Alt-Del shows
no new process or no CPU activity. After a while, the hour glass just
goes away.
I've tried getting there from control panel, but it does the same
thing.

Any help would be great!

try using the following command:
netsh interface ip set dns "Local Area Connection" static aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd

Replace Local Area Connection with the name of you network connection and
aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd with the DNS server IP address.
