Network adapters bridged but MAC Bridge Miniport does not show up

I'm working on a computer that has only one network adapter installed, but it
says that the network bridge is enabled. I have no network connectivity at
all, will not get an IP address from DHCP, can not enter manually because it
says it's part of a bridge. I can not disable the bridge because the network
bridge icon is missing. I've cleaned all spyware/adware, scanned for viruses,
no problems. I am using Windows XP Home Edition original release, applied all
updates including SP2 and still have same problem.

Finally got this computer back from the user and did what you asked. I typed
"netsh bridge show adapter" and it went back to a prompt with no response. I
have asked several other professionals, all are baffled by this problem. I am
going to format and reinstall Windows (already tried a repair install).
