NetMeeting login

Can somebody tell me how to create whatever shares are required to make
NetMeeting connect two or three XP Pro machines? Does the Guest account
need to be on, or do the other PC's need to have special priveleges?

I get questioned for a password when NetMeeting connects, and it won't
accept the user login that brings the machine up to begin with. I tried
adding a user, but all that does is add one more person to log in locally,
that account can not log in with NetMeeting either.

The machines see each other on the network and share files. The task is to
take control of one of the machines from home using a DSL line.

Thanks for the help

Hi Paul,

The problem is that the Microsoft Internet Directory servers for NetMeeting
are no longer supported.

You will need to either use a different ILS server (addresses for these can
be found by searching for "ILS server" at www.google.com) and type the
server address into the directory window manually, or you can place a
NetMeeting call directly by clicking the call BUTTON and entering the other
person's IP address or host name.

Note: If you choose to use a different ILS server, the other person you're
trying to call should be using the same server as well. Most ILS servers
do not share their lists of users between each other, in my experience.
However, if the party you wish to voice and video with is using Windows XP,
you will find Windows Messenger is superior in performance, with all the
same features as NetMeeting.

In fact, some of the core components of NetMeeting (Desktop Sharing and the
like) are what is used by Windows Messenger.

Windows Messenger is also much easier to configure to work through a
firewall, especially a UPnP enabled firewall. NetMeeting does not support
UPnP firewalls, so you have to configure the firewall manually.

Kelly thanks. Desktop sharing IS what I'm after and it IS behind a
firewall. I'v always disabled that Messenger though because of spam popups.

Dialing in with Netmeeting to another IP address is what I'm after though.
That's where I get the password ID problem.
