Netmeeting could not start error message

G

Guest

I have tried to setup Netmeeting on a workstation and I get Netmeeting could
not start. please restart your computer and try again. I have done that
several times. the KB 243956 did not help me out on this. I don't have the
little netmeeting icon in the systray to turn on or off the remote desktop
sharing.

I go into services and try to start Netmeeting Remote desktop sharing and I
will get the following message:
the netmeeting remote desktop sharing service on local computer started and
then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do,
for example, the PErformance log and alerts service.

how can i solve this issue?
thanks

I have tried to reinstalled netmeeting by using the instructions from the web
site you suggested. however, i am having a bit of a problem where, i put the
XP CD in the drive and than it wants the CD for SP 2. I have downloaded the
SP2 and put it on a CD, however it is just the EXE so when i click ok when it
asks for the SP2 CD it does not recongize that its SP2. I do not have an XP
CD with SP2 on it. What should I do?

Thanks for your assistance.

When you're asked for the system files, point to the following location on
the hard drive:

%Windir%\ServicePackFiles\i386

If not, you'll have to use a slipstreamed XP CD with SP2 integration. Follow

After some digging, i found out that we do not have NAT enable, that when i
configure Netmeeting before installing the WinGate Client applet, Netmeeting
would work. However when installed and configured WinGate, netmeeting would
not work. So at this time I will not be using netmeeting. I have to see if
there is any ramafication if I do enable NAT. Thanks for your help Ramesh!

I had this problem after enabling RDS within NetMeeting options. After
reboot, I got the NRDS icon in the System Tray, but could not turn it
on or off, and Netmeeting wouldn't start the old way (same error
message you had). Solution was to go to system services and stop the
NetMeeting RDS service, then disable it or set it to manual start.
Then run NetMeeting and uncheck the RDS box to get back to where you
were, and the System Tray icon will be gone.

As far as how it is supposed to work, I haven't a clue, but at least
NetMeeting works normally again.

There are at least two MS Knowledge Base articles on this issue with
other solutions that didn't work for me. I posted this solution to one
of them; maybe they will figure it out eventually.

Hope this helps.
