Nesting software again

Hello All,

For all those people who think nesting software is doodoo for me, here a
better explain of what i mean:

Does anyone know a freeware nesting program for nesting wood (plate
material), metal or (sail) cloth ??

A program like 2D Nesting software (Sheet cutting suite is a top-rated panel
nesting utility that optimized sheet layouts and reducing scrap generated)
or Astra-R ( The Astra R-Nesting program is designed for automatic nesting
of sheet materials and can be used for nesting wood chipboard, metal, glass,
plastic materials etc. The Astra R-Nesting program provides input and filing
of information about orders and materials, automatic and interactive
generation of nesting plans tec.etc).

Hope this was more clear then yesterday, meanwhile i wish KCAJ lots of
succes with building his nest and his (or her) chocolate eggs.

For the more serious of this perfect group: thanks in advance if you have
something for me.

What you are looking for is a CAD like Cutting Optimization program...I
think the "Nesting" is throwing people off (then again some people will be
contrary just because it's there nature)...Material Optimization programs as
freeware are likely to be in short supply, but a Google search using
"Material Cutting Optimization Freeware" yielded 100,000+ hits...Search
engines are your best friends unless you're too lazy to use them.

to nest polygons.

For the more serious of this perfect group: thanks in advance if you
have something for me.

If what you want is something to optimize material useage, you should be
able to use Cut List Plus. It is intended for woodworkers but you can
set it up for any kind & size of material. Isn't free but there is a
free trial and it is such a handy program that I risk the wrath of the
"if it ain't free it ain't for me" purists by pointing you to...

Unless your polygons have parallel perpendicular sides, CutListPlus
won't do it.

You might want to consider square sails...they are fun and you get one
or more yards (each with two arms) and braces to boot.

My dear Diablo,

If it was that easy, i'shouldn't ask the group. After 2 days googling and
searching i start to think that this is not available as freeware, (see also
my next thread). But far in my memory there is the feeling that i saw a
freeware prog like i want 1 or 2 years ago.

I don't have a program for you, per se. Rather, there are a couple of
projects in alpha-stage, hosted on sourceforge. If all else fails in
your quest, I'd suggest you follow up directly with the developers of
these projects to see if they've something ready for "testing."

I was not responding to you in that reference but to the previous
poster who also made a smart comment.

Best of luck in your search. You could try clothing design software or
sheet cutting software for timber shops. It may be adaptable to your
needs.

Thanks for your tips,but those progs can not handle polygons.

If all else fails, draw a simple square or rectangle around your complex
shape or polygon. It won't be perfect, but will help a lot.
