What do you mean by your Windows Update got deleted, link not available?
Have you tried searching for it?

Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder. (Because of possible folder
corruption or other errors.)
Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder:
a. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%, and then click OK.
b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this
folder.
Create a new folder called "SoftwareDistribution"
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.
Rerun Windows Update.

I had similar errors, and yes this occured after uninstalling sp1 rc.
I had the 8004100a error. 8004100a is a WMI error
I used wmidiag to see what was going on:
it appeared that Win32_UserProfile was missing.
So I installed this patch:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930955
BUT IT FAILED!!!!

At any rate, I noticed that my path variable was not being honored.
%systemroot% was set to c:\windows but I couldn't run anything that was
pointed to by
%systemroot%. SO I changed all %systemroot% entries in my PATH to c:\windows.

THEN 930955 WAS INSTALLED!!!

After this completed I was able to install
KB941649
