While logged on to my account (ie: modelingfrog with
administator privilages) I am unable to search from my
address bar or from an msn related webpages. I get a
404error stating that I am not authorized to see this
page. (any keyword does this) If I go to yahoo and
search from their pages there is no problem unless I
click a link (like MSN toolbar)from the search results
and I get that dredded message. its not the 404 page not
found one though.

the thing is now that I am logged on as GUEST I have
no problems. and In winxp pro i do not have to option
to repaire IE6.

if you could help guide me to the right information or
actually help please do. THANK YOU in advanced.

In many, many instances problems with Internet access, logging on, etc.
are caused by spyware and/or viruses. Please do the first steps of
Windows troubleshooting:

1) scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). These programs are free, so use them both since
they complement each other. Be sure to update these programs before
running, and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode;
3) delete temporary and Temporary Internet Files; 4) stop unnecessary
services/programs from starting with Windows - see www.blackviper.com
for services info and www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm for
programs info - 5) look in Event Viewer for clues.

After you are sure your computer is virus and spyware-free, if the
problem persists and you need more help, please repost. Be sure to be
as descriptive about the problem as you possible can, and remember to
tell us what you've already done to troubleshoot.

Hi,

I heard earlier that the msn search page is down. Wait 24 hours and try
again.

after posting my message I again restarted my PC and
logged on with my actual account. I openened IE and did
a search. Everything worked. the problem May be related
to MSN directly, although that does not explain my being
unauthorized to view a search. after reading your
post i downloaded spybot tool and found a few reg keys
that are new to me(actualy XP is new to me
alltogether).anyways it found some "wwwcoolweb" things
and some IE settings that deal with simply changing
settings and the usual MEDIAPLAYER and ALEXA stuff. I
did fix the (www) one, not being firmiliare with it and
left the others. As for Ad-aware, I do prefere the
spysweeper (for the first scan) because of the
discriptions and such that it offers compared to ad-
aware. but in the longrun AD_AWARE is better seeing that
you can update it more then once.

I thank you for the posts, and hope this event
does not occure too ofter. signed; modelingfrog.
