I just upgraded my legal 2KPro to a legal XP Pro and was devastated to find
that the XP image viewer is not only fuzzy but cannot read and edit
annotations on my hundreds of image files..! How can I install my (licensed)
Kodak Imaging program from my Win2000 on my new XP---I have the 2KPro CD's
but don't know how to install without an installer.....

Thanks for the help!

Your 'Kodak Imaging program' was unlikely to have been a part of the OS
(Windows 2000)...
Install it on Windows XP the same way you installed it on Windows 2000.

Although - I recommend one of these two applications:

IrfanView
http://irfanview.com/

Picasa
http://picasa.google.com/

The latter even gives you 1GB free to post pictures in web-albums to share
with family/friends/the world.

You also may want to look into hardware drivers.

Visit the hardware manufacturer (particularly for your motherboard and video
card in your case) and download the latest drivers for said devices (chipset
and video card) and install them.

There must certainly be a Windows XP Pro version of the Kodak Imaging
Program, no? Or updates to the original Kodak Imaging program to be
used with XP? Anything from the Kodak website?

Kodak Imaging was the default image viewer that installed with 2KPro, Windows
98, etc. As I said, I have the files on my 2KPro CD's. Microsoft severed
their relations with the owners of the app and introduced a new viewer with
XP which is inferior.

I have used Irfanview for years. It does not allow me to view and edit the
annotations made by Imaging on my image files. I would like the old Microsft
default viewer---Kodak Imaging---as the default image viewer on my XP.

This issue had nothing to do with my hardware devices. Please read about
Kodak Imaging and XP in the KB.

You are correct and incorrect at the same time.

Kodak Imaging was included with Window 9x and 2000.
Microsoft was obviously licensed to use it on those OSes.
However - just because you own Windows 2000 and a license for Windows 2000
does not mean you are licensed to use PARTS of it beyond the use of the
Windows 2000 OS itself.

Is this what you want?
"G360 Imaging for Windows replaces, and is compatible with, the Wang Imaging
for Windows included in Windows 95 and NT and the Kodak Imaging for Windows
and Imaging Preview in Microsoft Windows 98 and 2000 (sometimes known as
Microsoft Imaging)."

The issue is discussed here:
http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-1035_11-5034679.html
Although the original article was removed some time ago (my guess - legal
reasons...) - the comments are quite revealing and describe what you are
describing.

I was incorrect about what was included in 2000. 2000/XP is in the NT line
of products - and I thought 'Kodak Imaging for Windows and Imaging Preview'
was not included in 2000 for that reason. (I thought it was a 9x product
line add-on only.)

Also - you say read about it in the 'KB' - but give no article number in any
response in this thread.

I also suggested Picasa. While I use Irfanview and install it on many
machines frequently - I am leaning more and more towards Picasa. I realized
it would not solve your 'old annotations' issue - but the only thing I think
might do that is to find a hack/possibly not legitimate way of getting
'Kodak Imaging for Windows and Imaging Preview' installed onto Windows XP or
actually purchaing a legitimate license from the link I gave above for the
alliancegroup.

Quote from the comments in the page linked from this particular answer:
" Imaging for Windows is a product of eiStream Inc.
Their Legal Department states:

"XP users are not licensed to use Imaging for Windows. The product is not a
part of the XP operating system as Microsoft is no longer licensed to
distribute it. XP users who wish to have the Imaging for Windows
functionality may purchase the licences."

"Further, it is in fact a copyright violation to take Imaging for Windows
from a prior O/S and 'drop' it into XP; this activity is also a violation of
both eiStream's and Microsoft's licenses to end users."

Imaging for Windows is available from

Ans although I cannot condone it - I will say that if you bother reading
through the comments on the page I linked to - you will find a solution that
no matter your believe on legalities - will work for you.

Dear Shenan:

Firstly I would like to thank you for your time and effort in responding to
my post.
I had in fact thoroughly studied ALL your links BEFORE my original
post...:)...!!

1. 99.99% of the links relate to NEW apps currently being sold by other
companies which are EQUIVALENT TO ENHANCED/UPGRADED versions of the original
Kodak Imaging which was part of the legal 2kpro package. I am not interested
in spending money on one of these new third-party programs, as I already have
better programs which do the same things. I need Kodak Imaging ONLY to read
and edit my annotations on 6 years of TIFF's which were annotated with Kodak
Imaging in my 2kpro. Other viewers do not do this simply/properly.

2. I am looking for a MICROSOFT or KODAK link relating to legal onwers of
2KPRro who have legally upgraded to XP and need to maintain Kodak Imaging
functionality in order to read files they created in 2kpro.

3. I am not interested in the 'legal' claims of other third-party companies
who want me to purchace their new programs (ie AllianceGroup, eiStream, or
Global).

4. I am not interested in the hacking efforts of XP users who do NOT have
the 2KPro CD.

5. I feel that when I upgrade my Microsoft OS, Microsoft should enable me to
read in the new OS documents made in the old OS. I would like A REPLY FROM
MICROSOFT on this matter but don't know where to write without having to pay
a $59 support fee.......
