My website looks "funny" - not like it should

My website looks great in frontpage. Looks great when I preview it in my own
browser (Internet Explorer) but then others view it in their browsers (some
also Internet Explorer) and it looks askew - none of the lines line up,
titles & pictures are in different spots - I'm at a loss as to why......

I looked at your tips.
Mine does the saem thing in a Netscape or Firefox browser.
I "see" that it's because of using absolute positioning.
But, how do you ge the items moved into position? without
using it? But still have it stay put? Here's my link to my
url..i create in IE but have netscape and Moxilla to view
as well. Help? I want it to be viewable by everyone. Can
you look at it in both IE and the others so you can see
the wy it's showing up without the IE?thanks!

First tip, don't use any VML graphics (WordArt, Text Boxes, etc.) which is only supported in IE
browsers under Windows and implemented via Absolute Positioning.

Second tip, create/modify all images in a image editing application.

Third tip, don't use the space bar to position element on your pages, as the spaces will adjust
depending on the font the page is displayed in.

Learn CSS or Tables and use to layout the structure of your pages.

it seems to me, that using FP isnt as EASY as it should
be? I dont understand what you mean by CSS and tables
either.
I'm still learin gthis stuff and the majority of the folks
that I have view the site, use IE. However, I dont want to
keep others away either.
so..trying to understand to the best I can, what you're
talking about in your response. May be more explaination
than can be addressed here. If there's
something..someplace for me to read/look instead, I will
be happy to do so. I am willing to learn.

Images (jpg, gif) created in a *real* graphics program as opposed to
proprietary MS formats.

It only does what you tell it to do. You could use a text editor instead,
and roll your own.

I dont understand what you mean by CSS and tables either.

This is why newbies get in so much trouble with WYSIWYGs. Newbies generally
lack an understanding of the fundamentals.

You create your images in a image or graphic application, such as PhotoShop, PaintShop Pro, etc.

I use tables to layout/structure my pages, other prefer to use CSS.

I will let others offer the best resources, as I basically learn from trying different things over
the years, and finally decided to stick with using tables.

You would use .jpg's or .gif's for graphics. VML, like Thomas said, will only be viewed well in IE, other browsers may convert them to low quality gifs...or not at all.

You should get an image editing program...Adobe Elements, Paint Shop Pro, and there's a few more that don't cost too much and are easy to learn.

The easiest positioning method is to use tables until you learn positioning. You create a table then and use cells within the table, or tables within a table to hold your content & images.

Well, thanks for most of the answers. Being a newbie means
you learn and you ask questions. Yup. you're right that I
don't know alot of the fundamentals, so that's why I come
here to groups such as this, and generally, am given some
great insight rather than remarks that arent nearly as
helpful. I'm sure there are alot of folks out there
wanting to know the same answers to the same questions, so
no question is deemed silly or not worth answering, in my
eyes. I apreciate any and all help given at any time.

Rob and Thomas,
appreciate the insight. I'll go back over your responses
with my FP in front of me so that I can grasp what you
mean. I have photo shop and Arc soft photo software on my
computer. Since this is for a chorus website that is runn
by volunteers..such as myself, I'm not sure the added $$
for the software will be something I will be doing. But, I
will keep that in mind, because we DO want everyone to be
able to view.

Photoshop is the best once you master it...they only reason I didn't mention it is the cost and the learning curve.

Here are a couple of sources to get you started with using tables for
layout. There is a real movement toward using css for layout thus avoiding
the use of tables. There are various opinions on the strengths of each
method. From a pratical... get it done... standpoint I think tables are the
easiest way to learn at first.... but hey .... that is just another opinion.
