My Mouse is double clicking without my persmission!!

Hi folks,

I have a serious question... for almost two years i have this wonderful
mouse, but no it makes some trouble... might be a hardware problem... well
the problem is, that if i single click the mouse double clicks but not
always. i don't know whats the reason, but its making me mad... the same
thing, if i drag and drop something, the mouse just fires click events, must
be internal in the mouse itself, that there is something wrong... has anyone
the same experiences and/or knows an answer how to repair that ?

sorry for putting this into the winxp newsgroup, but there wasn't a
microsoft hardware newsgroup.

greetings from germany,

Markus

Tried another mouse? The corded simple 2-button mice are pretty cheap;
a search at newegg.com for mice under $10 found 16 of them. You're
going to end up hurling the mouse against the wall anyway after more
frustration so just get a replacement now. They are a mechanical device
and will fail due to use or abuse.

You obviously didn't bother to look. Some are:

alt.comp.hardware
comp.hardware
microsoft.public.hardware
microsoft.public.mshardware

microsoft.public.win2000.hardware
microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware

There are more but many don't get much traffic.

Intermittent "bugs" are the worse!

Assuming some type of "MsMouse" because of the "microsoft" hardware
newsgroup.

?Ball or Laser?
Ball
1-Totally dismantle and CLEAN time paying special attention to the ball and
2 "spoked" wheels and sensor"S".
2-Internal circuitry going bad?
Laser:
1-Batteries fresh => Going dead==>
2-tiny piece of lint, dust accumulation in the bottom laser output slot
(usually there) or inside the "works" (again)==> dismantle, etc,
3- Circuitry (again)

General:
1-With PC OFF: Pull and reset a few times the connector while wiggling it to
get rid of any "oxydation" and foreign matters.
2-Mouse CABLE going bonker?
3-Drivers "contaminated"???==> Delete, shutdown and let them reinstall.

:)- NEW Mouse (Mice?) do(es) age after all!

You never have mentioned WHAT mouse you are talking about. Microsoft
doesn't manufacture any hardware; some Korean, Twainese, or other
country makes the stuff that Microsoft allows to have the moniker put
on. Same for the IBM mice and keyboards. Mice don't live too long if
they get "squished" repeatedly. Depends on use and abuse, and whether
you maintain the unit (i.e., clean it) and replace batteries when low
for cordless devices.

Like I said, just go get some cheapy temporary corded mouse to check if
the behavior is mechanical or software related. $10 USD ($8.50 Euro) is
pretty cheap to test with replacement hardware unless you don't value
your time and sanity, and you'll have a spare next time when you need
it. If it is cordless, they sometimes wander off (kids, dogs, gremlins,
thieves). If it is corded, well, wires break and soldering isn't always
perfect. Switches (for the buttons) wear with use just like any other
mechanical device. Filth can get inside and cause problems if
conductive; I just today had to open a Logitech cordless mouse because
the spring for the wheel button (you press it down for button action)
had popped off the wheel and was shorting out connections inside and
interferring with the buttons, but I could dismantle it to get inside to
put the spring back where it belonged.

Well, I've had Logitech replace 4 of theirs. Don't recall them even
asking when I bought it. I didn't even have to send them the defective
unit. They mailed me another one and I tossed the bad one.
