msiexec.exe>kernel32.dll>riched20.dll at addresss yadda yadda

I can't get packaged programs to load (XP Home Sp1) without access violations
stopping them. The violations always involve msi.dll or msiexec.exe or
MsiIstaller.exe I suppose. I have Versions 2.2600.1106. I know there is a
version 2.2600.2 out there. Which version of Installer (kernel32 and so on)
should I have in the system? I ran an sfc \scannow recently. Did that degrade
any file upgrades? If so how do I download the upgrades again? Or did the
August 2004 "rollup" take care of all that? [I know...bunch of queries.]
Thanks for any advice, I'm stuck.

Oh yeah, further, from one attempted install of "AdsGone" I also got a little
window with "privileged information" in it. It said "OK" under that, but it
wasn't.
