MSAS Windows Installer Service error with Upgrade install

I downloaded the new Beta version of MSAS. When running the executable, its
says the setup will perform an upgrade (I had the MSAS that expired 12/31).
When attempting the upgrade I get a Windows Installer Service could not be
accessed error - either running WinXP in Safe Mode (which I am not, Normal
mode boot) or Win Installer is not correctly installed. Please help. Brian

Hi Brian,

Try this :

Go to a command prompt and type

net start "windows installer

and hit enter

(don't forget the double quote)

Then try running the installation executable.

If the net start command fails, write back with whatever error message that
elicits.

I was getting the Windows defender service starting and stopping in 2000
sp4 with an 0x800061ab error and found I had to install Microsoft Client
for Windows and make sure the Workstation service was started
