Moving from ICS to router - uninstall ICS?

D

Dazed

Posturing for a near-term future with more devices than today . . . I
have a Windows XP Home host and a Windows ME client. I plan shortly to
install a wireless router - leaving the current network in cable form -
and need to prepare myself for how to "disassemble" ICS.

I am certain the XP box can be reconfigured without problems. Since
setting up the client required more work, I'm less certain of what will
be required there. Can network reconfiguration away from ICS be
carried out within the standard ME network setup tools, or should I
expect to have to uninstall the reverse of the way I installed (ie a
setup diskette)?

Thanks -

If the ME client is configured to obtain an IP address automatically,
you won't have to do anything to switch it from an ICS client to a
router client.

If you've configured the ME client's TCP/IP properties manually,
change it to automatic IP address settings to make it a router client.

A router might use a different range of IP addresses than ICS. If so,
you might have to re-configure any firewall programs on both computers
to recognize the new range of addresses as part of the local area
network.

These network settings have nothing to do with Internet access and
won't need to be changed: workgroup name, computer name, Client for
Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks,
shared disks and folders.
