Monitor problem

Fred Pickering

I have a computer that has never been connected to the Internet.
A clean install of XP Professional.
2.8 Intel 800fsb HT etc
Monitor Diamond View DV1998FD working okay on both my computers.

Today when I booted up, Windows loaded but the screen went black (I could
hear the intro music etc) and the power led on the monitor turned from green
to yellow.

If I inserted a music cd it would auto play okay.
I tried all the usual things. like use latest ok etc - no joy
Booted up into safe mode - okay

Booted up into VGA mode - Okay - reinstalled monitor drivers and profiles
okay except of course XP complained they were not signed etc - told XP to
use anyway.

Rebooted

aaargggh!
Same problem
Wouldst appreciate some clues!

What motherboard and video do you have? Are you using
on-board video or an AGP card? Does the card have a cooling
fan and heat sink? Is it clean and does the fan run?

Have you checked to be sure all cards and connectors are
securely installed?

Have you tried using device manager to remove the video card
and then re-boot so it is redetected as "new" which should
install the correct drivers.

If the monitor did not take a dump on you, I would start checking
your power management settings. In my opinion for a stand alone
PC these are useless. (hibernation, turn off monitors, turn off HDD's
etc, etc) Also check your monitor controls (knobs, buttons)

Many thanks - it was quite simple actually for some reason the drivers for
the gforce4 mx440 AGP8x video card went bye byes. Deleted and let XP find it
again... I went off on a wild goose chase looking under the wrong tree!!! I
have taken out the power management stuff as suggested.
cheers

Fred
