modifying function of extra button on laptop

My laptop has an email button built in, which normally opens the default
email program. Trouble is, I use gmail.

How would I change it to open gmail.com in my web browser?

I know how to add a hotkey to a shortcut, but that requires ctrl + alt + the
button, which is more key pressing than I want to do.

According this article, its not possible to set Gmail as your default email
client through a web interface. You have to use the built in email client
(Windows Mail) or Microsoft Office Outlook if you have that installed.

You probably cannot do what you want, but if it is possible either your
laptop manual/documentation disc or the manufacturer's Web site will have
documentation on what customization options are available for your computer.
