Microsoft Word Footer Appears Correct in Preview But Does Not Print Correctly

When applying a page count footer e.g., Page 1 of 5, 2 of 5, etc., the
print preview shows the formatting correctly. However, when I print
the document, it prints as Page 1 of 1, 2 of 2, 3 of 3, etc.
If I scroll to the middle of the document and print "Page 3 of 5", it
prints correctly. I am using Microsoft Word 2000 and XP home addition.
This problem occurs regardless of selecting a local or networked
printer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The "y" in "page x of y" doesn't work very well in Word. See
