Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro Joystick

Hello all,
I have been using this joystick with a usb connector
in my laptop using windows 98. Now I want to use it with
Windows XP on a Desktop. Problem is when I put the disc
in the message says "Sidewinder game device software 3.x
installs drivers that are incompatible with this version
of windows. (my desktop is using Windows XP home edition)
is it possible to fix this condition? Thanks for you help

Don't install the software, Frank. Windows XP no longer supports the vxd
format in which the v.3 drivers were written, but will install correct ones
automatically when you plug the device into the game port and then go into
Control Panel/Game Controllers/Add the Microsoft SideWinder Controller
(auto-detect). You will no longer be able to program buttons, but instead
need to rely on in-game Options to do so.
