Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 does not Install : (

Edward

Hi,

I'm running Windows-XP Pro (SP2) on a Pentium-/ 3.20GHz
1.00GB of RAM, and I can't install a Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 that I
just purchased.

Following the Microsoft camera instructions I installed first the
driver and software, then when I plug the camera (USB) Windows
recognizse it but it display a message saying "a problem occurs when
installing the hardware". I check looking at the Device Manager and
there is a yellow exclamation mark on the Imaging Devices Microsoft
Lifecam icon.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the camera, running the
camera software update, trying different USB ports, checking that
all the USB ports are correctly set on the mother board BIOS, etc.

Funny thing is that I have installed a friend of mine Logitech webcam
with no problems, before buying this new Microsoft, and now I don't
know what to do.

I have removed all the "old" Logitech drivers and software before
trying
installing the LifeCam, and I have also cleaned the registry removing
all the Logitech keys and files.

I'll appreciate any help relating this matter.

Thanks in advance,
Edward

Since it is a brand new device, I would think that there should be information
in the box on how to get support for the device. I'd follow that path first. It
does sound like the camera may be defective, the drivers are in conflict with
something, or the ports are bad. I doubt the latter.
Good luck.

Thanks for helping me Steve.

The camera is fine, I just installed it on a friend PC very similar
to mine, and it works just fine. I cannot imagine what my PC
problem could be, as it is a very reliable PC with an Intel Desktop
Board D875PBZ that I use it to capture and edit video, and for
many multimedia and graphic applications using different USB
devices as cameras, scanners, USB printers, etc, etc with not
problems at all.

I tried again, after removing all the camera drivers and software, and
when reinstalling Windows-XP shows the flowing warning:

“Windows cannot start this hardware because its
configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete
or damaged (code 19)”

Just in case I also checked the power state of the USB port and
it says: “Current power state D3”.

Can you suggest how to troubleshoot the USB ports, or whatever
should I do to solve this?

BTW: I can't find related to this on the Microsoft camera support
site.

Thanks again,
Edward.

I think one of your problems is that you have too many USB devices all
getting their power supply from the PSU in the PC case. A powered hub would
be a good idea... also ensuring your PSU is at least 500watts.

Thanks for your help Cari.

I have disconnected all other USB devices.
A different USB powered webcam works fine (this does not).
My PSU is 550 watts.

Thanks again
Edward

Hi Edward. Is there anything in the manual/brochure that tells you how to
contact support?

That's one way to resolve the problem. I did that with a few sound cards a few
years back. It wasn't worth the hassle to try to make them work on the wonky PC,
so I found one that finally worked. :)

I 've had the same problem and suspect it is the software that is fulty as
everytime I connect the camera LiveCam starts and then hangs. I'm taking it
back to the store and buying a Creative model which I know works

I just tried to install the VX-3000 on a brand new Gateway tablet pc and I
get the same exact message. I have nothing else plugged into the USB ports.

I plan to return mine tomorrow too. I'm sort of surprised at Microsoft on
this. Oh well. Maybe next time.
