Microsoft Announces Updated Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition With New Plus! Photo Story 2

The new version of PhotoStory worked great - the key features for me being
saving a project file for future editing, and then burning a standard VCD
(using built-in Sonic powered software). I tested it on two computers and it
worked flawlessly.

Just need to find a DVD player to test the two CDs on.

Thanks again for the pointer,

PapaJohn

PapaJohn;

I like many others are getting an error on installation of this update that
it could not find "Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition.msi" which it is
looking for in C:\Temp. It also references that it should be in the .cab
file for the new dancers. This Partym~1.cab does not exist either.
Microsoft has not responded, even though I filed an incident report.

Any ideas?

Hi Bobby,

I searched the two computers that I installed the upgrade on, for .msi files
and don't find any associated with the Plus pack. So, I'd guess the .msi is
installed as a temporary file during the setup and then deleted afterwards.
So maybe the installation wasn't clean, and needs to be redone. But I'm only
guessing.

Don't see a .cab file either. Maybe another temporary file.

Update on the first 2 VCDs that I burned using Photo Story. I brought them
to Circuit City to test in a couple new DVDs. The first one we checked was a
low end DVD/TV combo (didn't note the brand), and the discs were not
recognized. We tried another higher-end model Panasonic DVD/TV combo and
both worked fine. So, like we hear all the time, discs might or might not
work.

Just read a post on microsoft.public.plus about the issue: the poster got
around it by:

===============
What I did was to start the install of the original version, then Cancelled
it. That left the .msi file in

C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Local Settings\Temp\Plus! Digital Media
Edition Setup

Where Tom is my username. I then pointed the upgrade to that directory and,
voila! It worked.

Thanks to both of you. It worked. It just seems like a real pain in the
behind to have to do it that way. Anyway, I burned a copy to mini cd-r with
the expanded files to ease reinstallation in the future.
