Meeting invitations recieved as mail item and not calendar item

Since my PC was re-installed (XP), I get meeting invitations from outside my
organization mail server as plain e-mail rather then a calendar item. This
results in having to manually update the calendar with the meeting data as I
can not accept or reject the invitation. Meeting requests that are sent to me
within the organization mail server are received properly as a calendar item.
(same with invitations I send out). Is there a way to configure outlook to
receive these invitations as calendar items? - Thanks
