Mapping of Logical Network Drives

K

Kim

On a Windows XP Professional machine I need to map two
folders on my c: drive as logical network drives: y: and
z:.
I did this a few weeks ago by right clicking on the
folder in Windows Explorer and selecting properties, then
setting up Sharing with full access.

However, for some reason the y: and z: mapping remains
but the route is unavailable. On looking at the
properties of the folders again, the sharing has become
disabled. On re-establishing sharing the logical drives
do not come back online and after deleting the logical
drives the folders are not given in the list of folders
available to map.

This usually happens because of the failure to flush
cached NetBIOS information. In cases where the
configuration has not changed, recreating the share should
fix it. Try giving the share a different name.

Hope this helps!
