Make all my pictures smaller (for emailing)

When I click on a file and choose Send, I used to get a
dialog where I would be given the option of making the
image 640 X 480 for emaiing this option is no longer
offered, the new email message opens with the attachment
in place even though it is 2mb in size.

Also, when i double-click a file, Windows Picture and Fax
Viewer used to come up, but now Windows Photo editor
comes up instead. how do i re-associate jpg to proper
EXE? ie: what is exe of Windows Picture and Fax Viewer?

For your first question...

Try this:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

For the second question...

Try this...open an image folder and right click one
of your image files...from the menu, select...Open
With / Choose Program.

Make your choice from the list or Browse to the
correct program if it is not in the list. Once you
make your selection...be sure to check the box
that says: "Always use the selected program to
open this kind of file". (you will need to do this
for each format....jpg, .tif, .gif...etc.)

Some more info:

Also...in WinXP, you can go to...My Computer /
Tools / Folder Options / File Types tab...

To reset the Windows Picture and Fax viewer to be your default viewer for
this file type, go to 'Windows Explorer|Folder Options|File Types'; find the
type of graphics file from the list and change the OPEN command. For most
users the command line should read:

"rundll32.exe <drive>:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1"

To decrease the size of the file for e-mail, web publishing etc.

Go to this site and download the free Image Resizer. Exe file in one of your
folder.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Once in your folder, double click on it to install it.

Once installed, you right click on a photo file (or on a group of selected
photo files).

Click on Resize image on the opening menu.

A window will open, select the size you want.

New files will be added in your folder, same name as original file but with
the word (small) added.

The first time you use it, you may not see Resize image on the opening menu
after you right click on the file or if you see it, it may not work. If so,
do the following:

Click on Run, click on Start and type the following in the textbox:

REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL

and press the Enter key.

Note that there is a space between ...32 and SHI.

Also, you can download a free batch converter from here to resize pictures
and edit photos:

.
Hal, This might work, but the first solution above from
John Inzer solved both problems. Apaprently somehow the
DLL got "un-registered" which caused my problem. I know
all about file types, so i checked another functional XP
machine, and even though picture & fax viewer worked, it
did not show up under an "Open" entry for file type. The
listed item was MS Photoed.

Thanks, DRB
