Magic partition error 108

When i run Pm8 i get on a friend's disk

Error #108: Partition
didn't end on cylinder boundary -- in PartitionMagic. (In my case:
ucEndHead expected to be 254, not 44.)

I know Fdisk remove this error but it also erases everything

Is there any other mean to cure it ?

Looks like a partition table error...
though a disk editor *might* be able to correct the problem...
you could also end up loosing all data...
so I'd backup all data on the drive.
do you suggest a disk editor ?
Will ptedit do the job ? I will have to learn how ti change the boundary of
the partition to make it fit the end of the last cylinder
thanks a lot

What are you going to use Partition Magic to do? If you
will be resizing partitions with data on them, it is
strongly advised to first copy this data onto another drive,
every now and then Partition Magic can lock up in the middle
of an operation, causing loss of everything in the effected
partitions.

If you were only deleting or creating a partition, try using
Windows' Disk Management instead, or you might try Acronis
Disk Director, though it might also have a problem with the
same error, but in general I find it less picky about things
Partition Magic can't handle.

I aml tring to recover data on the friend's disk He has lost every hope
about recovery. I still do don't. .
So nothing too loose.
Now again the disk cannot be accessed by Windows. To access it i need to
remove the 108 partition error
as stated previously

There is no need to use Partition Magic in attempts to
recover data. Creating a new partition and filesystem does
not restore the old one.

You need a data recovery software that raw-reads the drive,
not relying on what windows alone can see as a valid storage
volume.

thanks; the subject is now close since the owner has reformated his disk.
