MacAfee AV 7.0 , WinXP and Earthlink Satellite Internet

Until 3 days ago, I had excellent access to the Internet using
Earthlink Satellite connection. I then installed MacAfee AV 7.0 with
firewall. During installation MacAfee repeatedly told me that I needed
Administrator access, which my profile has. At one point during
install, I lost the connection through the satellite.

From that moment, I had no internet access, could not even dial up,
and also lost my connection to the network. After trying various ways
to recover, I finally uninstalled MacAfee (of course the uninstall
does not remove everything). Cleaned up the MacAfee folder that was
still there and remove MacAfee registry entries. Still no Internet
access.

3 hours on the phone with Earthlink and a series of reconfigs,
produced no results. A second call to Earthlink got me to a different
support guy. He suggested an XP system recovery from 3 days previous.
Everything working perfectly. I didn't realize that XP had this
function. Excellent.

Who thinks I should re-install MacAfee?

I would suggest trying to re-install it with the administrator account. I
have had some instances where a user with administrative access isn't
enough. My guess is that the software is looking for something that an
account with administrative access doesn't have.

Macafee's Virusscan ONLINE is excellent and V7 as you have not quite as good but good enough. However, their firewall is pathetic. Uninstall their firewall and you will be just fine.
