lsass.exe csrss.exe -- any way to stop?

I've done a google search on this subject and it seems alot of people
ran into this but still I haven't found a solution... Is there any way
to stop or quiet down lsass.exe and csrss.exe? They seem to be
critical components of window but under Task Manager they are the only
services that are constantly active reading and writing every second.
I just want my hard drive to spin down when idle. This can't be good
for the drive can it? Are all XP Home systems like this?

Thanks!

Terrance

MS has seen some issues where lsass spiked. Here are some articles that
may apply, but without having specific data about your environment
troubleshooting this via newsgroup would be too complicated.
