LPR vs. TCP/IP

What is the difference in traffic paterns between a LPR
installed printer and a TCP/IP driven printer? Does the
TCP/IP create more traffic back to the server?

Thanks

Well, that's a bit of strange question because lpr/lpd works over TCP/IP.

Do you mean how does the lpr/lpd protocol with the "port 9100" (Raw)
protocol, which is different printing protocol that also works over TCP/IP.

I don't think you will find much difference in the amount of data traffic
between these two protocols, but it would not surprise me to find that the
lpr/lpd protocol has more overhead and thus somewhat more data transmitted
than for the port 9100 protocol.
